Getting Started with MyKasa: Plan Your Budget in 10 Minutes

Welcome to MyKasa! If you're reading this, you've taken the first step toward taking control of your finances through simple, effective budget planning.
Notice we said planning, not tracking. That's the key difference with MyKasa.
What Makes MyKasa Different?
Most budgeting apps want you to connect your bank accounts and categorize every single transaction. Coffee? Mark it as "Food & Dining." Gas? "Transportation." By the end of the month, you've spent hours tracking where your money went.
MyKasa flips this around. Instead of tracking where money went, we help you plan where it should go. Set it up once, follow the plan, and you're done.
The Barefoot Investor Bucket Strategy
MyKasa is inspired by Scott Pape's "Barefoot Investor" bucket strategy. The idea is simple:
- Divide your money into buckets (accounts) — one for bills, one for savings, one for fun money, etc.
- Assign income and expenses to each bucket
- Transfer money between buckets as needed to keep everything funded
Sounds simple, right? It is! But doing it manually with spreadsheets gets messy fast. That's where MyKasa comes in.
Setting Up Your First Budget (10 Minutes)
Step 1: Create Your Accounts (2 minutes)
Think of accounts as buckets. Most people start with 3-5:
- Joint Account (where paychecks land)
- Bills Account (rent, utilities, subscriptions)
- Savings (emergency fund, future goals)
- Fun Money (guilt-free spending)
Click "Add Account" and name each one. Don't overthink it — you can always add more later.
Step 2: Add Your Income Sources (3 minutes)
List everything that brings money in:
- Your salary (or both salaries if dual income)
- Side gig income
- Rental income
- Investment dividends
For each income source:
- Choose how often you get paid (monthly, biweekly, weekly)
- Enter the amount
- Select which account it goes into
Example: "Partner 1 Salary" — $3,500/month → Joint Account
Step 3: Add Your Expenses (3 minutes)
List all your recurring expenses and assign them to accounts:
- Rent ($1,500/month) → Bills Account
- Groceries ($600/month) → Joint Account
- Internet ($60/month) → Bills Account
- Gym ($40/month) → Fun Money
Pro tip: Start with the big stuff (rent, utilities, subscriptions). You can add more detail later.
Step 4: Get Your Transfer Plan (Instant!)
Click "Calculate Transfers" and boom — MyKasa tells you exactly what to move where.
Example result:
- Transfer $1,200 from Joint Account to Bills Account
- Transfer $500 from Joint Account to Savings
That's it. Follow this plan each month and all your buckets stay funded.
Step 5 (Optional): Add Projections (2 minutes)
Want to see when you'll be debt-free or how much you'll save in 2 years?
Add a "Starting Balance" to any account:
- Debt accounts: enter as negative (e.g., -$15,000 for credit card debt)
- Savings accounts: enter as positive (e.g., $2,000 current savings)
MyKasa will show you a chart projecting where that balance will be over time if you follow your budget plan.
What Happens Next?
Every month (or whenever you get paid):
- Log into MyKasa
- Check your transfer recommendations
- Move the money
- Done!
No tracking transactions. No categorizing purchases. Just follow the plan.
